Scoville Hall, community meeting house, destroyed by Fire.

Scoville Hall, our Parish House and community meeting center for more than 90 years was destroyed by fire. We would like to thank the entire community, both here in Amagansett and around the world for the words of support over the last few days. The many prayers have been amazing. The Session will meet
with insurance adjustors soon. Pastor Steve Howarth is working with the many community groups who use the space to get them relocated into our Sanctuary or another location. The Buildings Committee and the Session under the guidance of Pastor Steve will work with the community to restore the meeting spaces and make them even better than before!

The Food Pantry, AA (is there every day!), Church of the Nazarene (they lost all their expensive electronics and many documents), The Star of the East Masonic Lodge (who lost the first Bible issued to the lodge, membership records, and their antique furniture and paintings), Women's Guild, two Sunday Schools, Weight Watchers, the Amagansett School uses it as an evacuation center, and more.

Many thanks to Amagansett FD and the surroundings districts for their hard work so early in the morning and through the day.

We are collecting donations to help when rebuilding comes. Even a dollar will help!! Only $5 will help sponsor a shingle. For those of you out of town, use our paypal address: APCnewsletter@aol.com. Its a great tax write off as well!

You are invited to attend Worship with us at 10:00 am on Sundays. Come as you are and enjoy the AC. If you are looking to be revitalized, looking for new meaning and hope in a troubled world, or if you just want a good dose of joy, then we warmly invite you this coming Sunday.

During the school year, children pre-K through 6th grade are welcome to attend Sunday School. Children and parents meet in the Church Sanctuary, then class is held in the Yule Room 11:15-12:00 Noon.

All children pre-K through 6th grade are welcome to attend Sunday School, which is held the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Children and parents meet in the Church Sanctuary at 11am to hear the Children's message. Class is then held in Scoville Hall from 11:15-12:00 Noon. Sunday school is held on many Sunday's throughout the summer.

Presbyterian comes from the Greek word "Presbuteros." This means "Elder." This relates to the practice of choosing leaders from among the wisest members of the church family. According to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) website, the PC (USA) has about 2.4 million members, 11,100 congregations and 14,000 ordained ministers. It is said that you can find a Presbyterian Church in almost every town in the nation, from coast to coast.

Presbyterians trace our history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. The Presbyterian Church is founded on the ideals of the Protestant Reformation and is based on the concept of democratic rule under the authority of God. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564). His writings crystallized the Reformed thinking. Calvin wrote that the reform of the church is based on three 'pillars' of doctrine, administration of the sacrament, and governing of the church. Our bible based ministry in Amagansett focuses on these beliefs through our nurturing congregation.

We have been promoting Christ's mission both here and in the world since 1860. We are situated in the heart of the hamlet of Amagansett, nearly in the center of East Hampton town, on the beautiful south fork of Long Island. Our historic Church is just a short stroll from the rolling dunes of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our Church has enjoyed a rich history, and has grown into a cornerstone of the Amagansett community. Our annual fair, now in it's eighty-ninth year, is a vital part of the summer experience in Amagansett. Our Worship services, fundraising dinners, operation Christmas Child events, and more help us to keep connected with old friends while making new ones.

Did you know... when the Amagansett Fire Department was formed in 1922, Rev. Clarence Scoville (then Pastor of our Church) was admitted for membership and assigned to the bucket brigade... when Scoville Hall (our meeting hall) was built in 1925, each student in Sunday School had to bring $2 to purchase the chairs to sit in (and those sturdy chairs are still being used for Sunday School today)...that the German Invasion of Long Island in 1942 was conducted on a beach not far from our Church (visit the links section for more information)? Why not visit our history section for more interesting facts.

We are blessed that you have visited us today! We invite you to sign our online guestbook, read about our exciting spiritual history, and learn about the Presbyterian Church (USA) and our unique community.
